“What are you going to eat?”

Ah, it doesn’t matter, as long as I eat something. It doesn’t
really have to be an experience. This restaurant will do — the
food’s not that good, the decor’s terrible, and the service is bad
— but I don’t really want an experience-based restaurant.”

Why do you go back to a certain restaurant? Experience!
You go back because the last time you went, you had a good
experience.

Jesus is my joy. He’s my experience of that joy. Jesus is
my life. He’s my experience of that life. Jesus is my peace. He’s
my experience of that peace.

People say, “I want to meet Jesus, but I don’t really want
to have an experience with Him. I don’t want that joy. I don’t
want that walking and leaping and praising God. I don’t want that
stomping-on-the-riser stuff.

They’re just having an experience, and I want none of that. I don’t want that laughing-in-the-meeting stuff. I just want to listen to the message and have no experience.”

Why? So you can leave the revival meeting and tell people
that nothing happened? We can experience a roller coaster
ride. We can experience a meal.

We can experience the pleasure of friends and family. We can experience playing a sport. We can experience all those things. But then we come to church and say we don’t want to experience joy because we don’t want an experience-
based Christianity.

Everything we believe should be based on the Word of
God. Our experiences should be in line with the Word of God, but
you cannot truly know Jesus without an experience with Him. You
have to have an experience with Him.

When you have an experience with Jesus, it will result in
a joy that is unspeakable and full of glory that will flow out of
your innermost being. You will experience such joy that you
won’t be able to keep quiet about it. If you haven’t experienced
that, then you’ve never met Him, because Jesus is an experience!
When you really experience Him, you will never be the same.
